Santa Cruz Mountains. The mountainous terrain, the Pacific Ocean, and the nearby San Francisco Bay have wide-ranging effects on the appellation, creating a plethora of micro-climates, ultimately defining the regions terroir. Vineyards in this region are not only influenced by the elevation of the land, but coastal fog, bright sunshine and vast soil types.

Highlands Ranch Vineyard. Located in the world-renowned Santa Lucia Highlands, also referred to as SLH; a sub-appellation that is part of the larger Monterey County, California AVA. Sitting at the foothills of the Los Padres Mountains this cool weather location is home to the perfect terroir for Pinot Noir.

Anderson Valley (Mendocino). A six (6) acre vineyard that pushes the vines to the limit; situated 1800 feet above the town of Boonville, California you’ll find our Romas Vineyard. A sight to be seen from the mountaintop, the vineyard offers a spectacular 360-degree view of Anderson Valley, a unique perspective for overseeing our Pinot Noir grapes throughout the growing season.

Pinot Noir (Romas Vineyard) - The cooler climate in the Anderson Valley is widely known for its cultivation of Pinot Noir. Although many areas of California experienced record sun hours – at 1800 feet and 13 nautical miles from the cool breezes of the Pacific Ocean - fruit struggled to ripen. Harvested October 10th, sugar and acid were balanced, and the fruit was beautiful in color; the extra hang-time resulted in no compromise of fruit quality, a rare and exhilarating achievement.

Pinot Noir (Santa Cruz Mountains) - Placed directly in the Santa Cruz Mountains, the region is bounded by the Santa Cruz Mountain range, from Half Moon Bay and Woodside in the north, to Mount Madonna and Watsonville in the south. The sparse soils beneath the vines consist of only a couple of feet of topsoil, with ancient marine uplift soils supplying the base rock beneath the vines. Most of the vineyard blocks are located on south to southwest facing slopes planted to four clones of Pinot Noir.

Pinot Noir (Highlands Ranch Vineyard) - At the foothills of the Los Padres Mountains – abundant sunshine and cool afternoon breezes combined with the gravel laced sandy loam soils come together to create a classic expression of California Pinot Noir. This bottling has quickly become a crowd favorite. The season started six weeks earlier than normal and harvest was 2-3 weeks ahead of schedule. Harvested on September 6th and September 12th – the fruit was well balanced and arrived at the winery in beautiful small Pinot Noir clusters.
